1968 Super Stock Hemi Dart

68 Hemi Dart  In the late 60's things were really heating up in the Stock and Super Stock classes.Along with that, more stringent rules were coming into play to keep the cars from becoming too radical. In order to use a driveline combination in one of these classes that combination would have to had been used in a production car and in order to be considered a production car there had to be 50 cars built with that engine. To keep their cars competetive (and maybe have an edge) Dodge and Plymouth decided to make a short run of limited production Darts and Barracudas with 426 Hemi engines. The wheel openings for Darts were opened up to make room for larger tires and the cars came literally with no options except the Hemi driveline.Gone were the little niceties like the radio, heat, back seat, crank windows, sound deadening and a warranty.Even the two front seats that you did get were the el cheapo light weight Dodge van front seats.Throw in a fiberglass front end and aluminum bumpers and you have yourself a bonafied dragstrip brawler that could run with the best of them. For a mere four thousand dollars or so you got a car that would run in the 10's with proper tweaking and still be a legal stock machine!
