1963 Chevrolet Impala "409"
What better greeting partner for a '63 convertable than this? This is also a very nice '63 Impala that also has the 409 lurking beneath the hood. This would be the first year for this top design as the bubble top went out at the end of the '62 model year. With just under 17,000 409 powered Chevys sold, this would be the best sales year that the 409's would see.The 340 horsepower 409 was new for this year and was so user friendly that it could even be purchased with a Powerglide.(It was the only 409 available with that transmission) The top performance 409 was now rated at 425 horsepower @ 6000RPM.It was an absolute sledgehammer with solid lifters, 11.0:1 compression, and dual 4-barrel carburators. There was also a single 4-barreled 400 horsepower version of Chevrolet's biggest offering making it very easy to go mild, wild,or some where in the middle.
